Reflect on what else is happening or might happen as the networks attempt to stay relevant in the new millennium.

i think that as the years go on that they will try to make it so you can skip through the commercials no matter the tv or cable you have. i think that they will find a different way to sell products. besides its not like when we go shopping we dont notice new things, so they could still make money and many people do like to try new things, they could just advertise things more at the stores then in commercials, because all commercials really do is annoy people and most watch because they have nothing else to do.

Open! Reflect on the different ideas related to media that we have discussed and that you have researched. You may write about anything related to the concepts we've examined this semester. Remember our goal: to be informed consumers of the media.

While i have been in media lit, i have learned alot about the american core values and how they are in all sorts of advertisements and commercials. i learned that the media uses the values to get you to buy their products. i can now see how the media works and how they get people to buy things and make money. another thing i have learned is the impacted that media has on our culture with the way they make people look, feel, think. the media has basically complete control over the image of our country. i have learned how they do this and what to look for so i dont fall into the lies they put out there to make money. i have really learned alot about media and in the long run it will be helpful.

What do you think? Discuss product placement in TV shows and movies as an effective/ineffective means of advertising, especially to teenagers.

Well i thought it was interesting, don't really want to buy a drill but i think that it could end up being more effective if people did advertisements like that because you don't really know you are being advertised to. It is a blinding thing, without even thinking about it they are advertising to you. normally in a commercial you know they are so you don't listen or you turn it off, but if it is presented to you like that then you are already watching and you don't really look at it like an advertisement. i think if they put it in certain shows and things teenagers would want anyways many of them would want to buy it, so i think it would be effective.

We are discussing magazine ads and commercials in class, but not the ads found online....As you spend time online--checking your email, looking at Facebook/MySpace, randomly surfing the web--observe the ads on various sites. What do you notice about the different types of ads? How do these differ from print/TV ads? How are they either more or less effective than the more traditional ads that we're analyzing in class. Blog about your observations!

As i was checking my email i noticed that there were many ads on things that are shown on tv. i got many car ads, also lots about new shows and things that are going on with celeberties. they are different from tv. ads because most tv. ads show products that are trying to be sold plus new shows that are on. they become very repetitive and people just end up muteing them or not watching them. i think that ads that are shown on the internet are more effective because you see them and they look interesting and you might want to see more, but if they are on tv. people usually just mute it without even thinking about it and so if you see something interesting online you look at it, but if on tv. and muted you totally just miss it. i think that internet ads are more effective.

How do the media images & stereotpyes of men & women impact how we view each other professionally (at school, at work, in politics, etc.)?

i think that the medias images of men and women changes how we think of eachother or what to expect from the opposite sex. in the media it shows most of the time that women need to look completly beautiful, they need to be very skinny, with beautiful hair and skin, with big eyes with long lashes. they show women as a sex symbol most of the time and it sends messages to girls that they need to be that way or that guys should expect girls to be like that. it shows that boys need to be really buff and thin and have a nice face with good hair and thats just not right. people shoould be able to be themselves and be loves for that, not how they look on the outside. at school the media trys to show that like jocks are dumb and jerks or blondes are stupid and mean or prepy, or smart kids are nerdy and never get out. its complete crap because i hang out with tons of different types of people and there stereotypes are wrong, and its not fair to judge someone upon that. you could miss out on a lot of great friends, good employes or even someone for the government if you go by stereotypes instead of taking the time to get to really know a person.

In The Secret life of the American Teenager, it is about a young 15 year old girl who makes a mistake once and ends up getting pregnant. In the show they try to show that you can still make it through life and achieve your goals even though you hit some bumps in the road. They also show that family and friends are very important to have because they will always be there for you, the show also shows that you can find good in all people and that everyone makes mistakes, that doesnt mean that they are bad people. this show is one of my favorites and i highly recommend it, i actually learn something from it and its interesting, plus the drama makes me feel better because my life isnt that crazy.

Why should consumers be worried about media conglomerates? Explain your thoughts in detail. Support your ideas with specific examples, if possible.

I think that the consumers should be worried about media conglomerates because if takes away the diversity in the media if one or two businesses own and take care of tons of smaller ones. the smaller ones would just end up being all the same because of the big business that owns them. they wouldnt have free range to do what they want in any type of media they use. some examples would be like tv. magazines, books, video games, advertisements ect. in the end everything would seem the same or have the basic same idea, we would lose the variety the diversity in the media, it would no longer be the same or as interesting. so consumers should worry about it.
